Quick Summary: We collect your email address (for your app account, or to send you a report you buy on our website). We build reports from official DVLA and DVSA data plus specialist vehicle-data providers. Payments go through Apple, Google or Stripe; we never see or store your card details. We don't sell your data, and we only send marketing emails if you opt in.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it and how we protect it. It covers our mobile app, our website (including the pay-per-report vehicle checks at plateinsight.co.uk/check, which work without an app account) and our browser extension.
By using PlateInsight, you agree to this policy.

2.6 Website Vehicle Reports (plateinsight.co.uk/check)
When you check a vehicle on our website and buy a report (no app account needed), we collect:
- Vehicle registration number you enter
- Email address, so we can send your report link and payment receipt
- IP address and basic request data, used for rate limiting, fraud prevention and security (including our bot check, Cloudflare Turnstile)
- Payment information, which Stripe handles entirely; we never see or store your card number. We keep the transaction reference, amount, date and report purchased
- The report we generate (the vehicle data and our analysis), stored so you can open it again from your link
2.7 Browser Extension (Chrome and Edge)
The PlateInsight browser extension sends us only: (a) the vehicle registration numbers you ask it to check, (b) the web address of a listing photo when you ask it to read a number plate, and (c) an anonymous install token we use for rate limiting, together with standard request metadata such as your IP address.
Page scanning for number plates happens locally in your browser; the content of the pages you visit is never sent to us, and we do not collect your browsing history. Photos are fetched once to read the plate and are not stored. Your list of checked plates is stored only in your browser and can be cleared at any time from the popup.
Free checks create the same vehicle report records as a check on plateinsight.co.uk/check.
